Kenapa semuanya berakhiran “-dere”?
| Awalan | Bahasa Jepang | Arti | Cara cinta disembunyikan |
|---|---|---|---|
| tsun- | つんつん | aloof, standoffish | behind irritability |
| yan- | 病んでる | mentally unwell | turned into obsession |
| kuu- | クール | level-headed | under a blank expression |
| dan- | 黙り | silence | under shyness |
| hime- | 姫様 | noble lady | under pride |
Glosarium tipe karakter anime
Tsundere
Personality archetype
A tsundere starts out cold and critical, warms up over time, and struggles to admit it. The key point: tsundere is not a mood, it is a character arc. The turning point is where the storytelling value sits.
Asal kata: A compound of two onomatopoeic words: tsuntsun (つんつん — aloof, standoffish) + deredere (でれでれ — openly affectionate).
Contoh: Taiga Aisaka (Toradora!), Asuka Langley Soryu (Evangelion), Rin Tohsaka (Fate/stay night).
Sering disalahpahami
Reducing it to "an angry girl" drops half the definition — without the arc, there is no tsundere.
Yandere
Personality archetype
A yandere appears warm and loving on the surface while being obsessive, possessive and jealous underneath. They do not turn that way later — they start that way; nobody noticed.
Asal kata: yanderu (病んでる — to be mentally unwell) + deredere.
Jangan tertukar dengan: In one line: a tsundere hides affection, a yandere hides instability. Not to be confused with yangire, where there is no love — only sudden violence.
Contoh: Yuno Gasai (Mirai Nikki / Future Diary) is the face of the archetype.
Sering disalahpahami
Equating yandere with "a jealous partner". It is a fictional tension device, not a description of a healthy relationship.
Kuudere
Personality archetype
A kuudere appears expressionless and calm, and leaks real feeling only to the person they care about. Unlike tsundere and yandere, the type is not built on change — they stay the same throughout.
Asal kata: kuu (クー), clipped from kuuru (クール, Japanese for "cool") + deredere.
Jangan tertukar dengan: The difference from dandere is the reason for the silence: kuudere is quiet because they are composed, dandere because they are nervous.
Contoh: Rei Ayanami (Evangelion), C.C. (Code Geass), Mikasa Ackerman (Attack on Titan).
Sering disalahpahami
"Cool" here means level-headed, not stylish. A kuudere is not trying to look cool; they simply do not panic.
Dandere
Personality archetype
A dandere barely speaks around strangers but is fluent and warm with someone they trust. The silence comes from shyness, not coldness.
Asal kata: dan, from danmari (黙り — silence) + deredere.
Contoh: Hinata Hyuga (Naruto), Sawako Kuronuma (Kimi ni Todoke).
Sering disalahpahami
An honest note: this term is vanishingly rare in Japanese and was most likely coined in Western fan communities. Only tsundere and yandere are widely known in Japan.
Deredere
Personality archetype
A deredere is sweet and affectionate from start to finish. There is no shell to crack and no hidden feeling, which makes it the lowest-tension type — and often the warm ground the story stands on.
Asal kata: でれでれ on its own means "openly affectionate"; the verb form is dereteru (デレてる).
Contoh: Yui Hirasawa (K-On!), Orihime Inoue (Bleach), Marin Kitagawa (My Dress-Up Darling).
Sering disalahpahami
Most lists place deredere alongside the others as an equal "type". In fact it is the root: it is the second half of every other "-dere" word.
Himedere
Personality archetype
A himedere expects to be treated as special and speaks in commands. When that softens toward the person they care about, warmth shows underneath — often over a hidden fear of abandonment.
Asal kata: hime-sama (姫様) + deredere. hime-sama is usually rendered "princess", but it covers young women of noble families generally — "noble lady" is closer.
Contoh: Erina Nakiri (Food Wars!), Noelle Silva (Black Clover).
Sering disalahpahami
Some lists count Haruhi Suzumiya as himedere; she is usually classed as kamidere (god complex).
Gyaru
Lifestyle label
Gyaru is not a personality type but a Japanese street-fashion subculture, born of 1970s counterculture and peaking in the 1990s: bleached hair, bold eye makeup, tanned skin — a deliberate stance against traditional Japanese beauty standards.
Asal kata: From the English word "gal".
Contoh: Marin Kitagawa (My Dress-Up Darling) is the best-known example of the trope being subverted.
Sering disalahpahami
Older works drew gyaru characters as shallow; modern series do the opposite — loyal, honest, warm-hearted.
Senpai ve Kōhai
Relationship form
Senpai–kōhai is a seniority relationship based on when you joined a group, not on age. Someone born after you but who joined the club before you is your senpai.
Asal kata: senpai = senior, kōhai = junior. The relationship has Confucian roots.
Contoh: It applies in school clubs, companies, martial arts schools and universities.
Sering disalahpahami
Because of the "notice me senpai" joke, the word is often read as "person you secretly like". It has nothing to do with romance. It is also confused with sensei — a sensei teaches and holds authority; a senpai merely arrived first.
Otaku
Lifestyle label
Otaku means someone with an obsessive devotion to a hobby. In Japan the word has historically carried far more weight than the English "geek", though the stigma has largely faded: in a 2013 survey, 42.2% of Japanese teenagers identified as otaku.
Asal kata: The word began as honorific speech — a distancing second-person pronoun meaning roughly "your house / you".
Contoh: Subtypes include anime otaku, manga otaku, game otaku, idol otaku, fujoshi.
Sering disalahpahami
The word marks degree, not taste. Watching anime does not by itself make someone otaku.
NEET ニート
Lifestyle label
NEET describes someone not working, not studying and not in vocational training. The surprise: the term is British, not Japanese — it began as UK public-policy vocabulary in the late 1990s and travelled to Japan later.
Asal kata: "Not in Education, Employment, or Training". Read in Japanese as nīto.
Jangan tertukar dengan: It is not the same as hikikomori: NEET is an employment/education status, hikikomori is extreme social withdrawal. They can overlap but are not synonyms.
Sering disalahpahami
Defining NEET as "someone shut in at home addicted to anime" — neither element is in the definition.
Isekai 異世界
Scenario frame
Isekai is a subgenre in which someone leaves their own world and has to survive in another, usually gaining significance they lacked at home. It is a scenario frame, not a personality type — which is exactly its roleplay value: it is an opening scene, not a character.
Asal kata: 異世界 — "another world".
Contoh: The modern wave began around 2012 with Sword Art Online; earlier examples include The Twelve Kingdoms.
Sering disalahpahami
It is often reduced to one mechanism ("teleportation" or "reincarnation"). There are at least six distinct entry routes.
Shounen ve Shoujo
Publishing category
Shounen and shoujo are not genres — they are target audiences. Japanese publishing splits four ways: shounen (teenage boys), shoujo (teenage girls and young women), seinen (adult men), josei (adult women). A shounen magazine can publish horror, comedy, sport or romance.
Asal kata: shounen means "boy", shoujo means "girl".
Contoh: Well-known shoujo works: Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, Hana Yori Dango.
Sering disalahpahami
Saying "shounen = action, shoujo = romance" is wrong; it only describes what sells best to those audiences.
Chuunibyou 中二病
Lifestyle label
Chuunibyou describes adolescents acting as though they possess secret knowledge or special powers. The key correction: it is not an illness.
Asal kata: Literally "middle-school second-year syndrome".
Contoh: Comedian Hikaru Ijuin coined it as a joke in 1999.
Sering disalahpahami
Ijuin himself disowned the term in 2009 after it began to be treated as a real psychological category.

- Jumlah karakter anime kami sedikit.
Keduanya sama-sama irit bicara, tetapi alasannya berbeda.
Apakah shounen sebuah genre?
Bukan. Shounen adalah target pembaca (remaja laki-laki), bukan genre. Sebuah majalah shounen memuat aksi, horor, sampai komedi romantis sekaligus.
Apakah otaku sebuah hinaan?
