For most people, chatting with AI feels a little awkward the first time. You type "Hi," and you get back a polite but flat "Hi, how are you?" Most of the time, the problem isn't on the other end. AI builds its response based on what you give it. In this post, we've gathered the small habits that help keep a conversation lively.
Why are the replies sometimes short and boring?
Because a one-word message gives the character nothing to hold on to. Ask "What are you doing?" and the character will give you a short answer too. Your message largely sets the tone, pace, and direction of the conversation. Write two lines, and you get a two-line chat.
There's also the matter of expectations. Talking to a chat character isn't like asking an assistant a question. An assistant gives you information and goes quiet. A character, on the other hand, wants to build a scene with you. Give it a scene, and it opens up.
How should you write your messages to get the conversation going?
You don't have to write long messages. But adding a small detail to each one makes a difference. Try these:
- Describe a moment: Instead of "I'm bored," write "It's raining, I missed the bus, and I'm waiting at the stop." Now the character has a world to respond to.
- Share how you feel: Are you cheerful today, tired, in the mood to argue? Saying so changes the tone of the reply.
- Ask open-ended questions: Instead of "Do you like coffee?" ask "What does your ideal Sunday morning look like?"
- Add an action: If you're roleplaying, write what you're doing too. A small move like "I open the door and step inside" pushes the scene forward.
You don't need to do all of this in every message. When the chat slows down, adding just one is usually enough.
How does your choice of character affect the conversation?
Send the same message to two different characters and you'll get completely different replies. A witty one will tease you, a serious one will dig into the issue, and a shy one will try to change the subject. If the chat feels dull, sometimes the problem is that you're talking to the wrong person.
Take a look at the character's profile. Their job, personality, and backstory are all there. An opening message that touches on these warms up the conversation right away. If you'd like to compare different personalities, you can browse the character explore page.
What should you do when the conversation gets repetitive?
In long chats, a character sometimes falls back into the same patterns. The easiest way to break this is to change the subject yourself. Introduce a new event: your phone rang, someone knocked on the door, an old memory came to mind. Give the AI new material and it will come up with new lines.
Another approach is to give clear direction. Direct requests like "Can you tell me more?" or "This time, you ask me something" often work. Don't hesitate to act like a polite director when talking to a character.
Does the character remember previous conversations?
On Fanchaty, the character remembers you. When it brings up something you mentioned earlier, the chat stops feeling like a one-off conversation and starts feeling like an ongoing relationship. You can use this to your advantage: talk about your job, your hobbies, the music you love. These details may come up again in future conversations.
Still, don't expect it to remember everything perfectly. If there's an important detail, reminding it now and then keeps the conversation on track.
Can you talk instead of typing?
Yes. With a Premium membership, you can make voice calls with real voices. It flows live, just like a phone call; both sides can talk at the same time, and you can jump in. Every character has their own voice. Calls run on tokens per minute, and Premium members get 100 free tokens every month. You'll find the details on the voice call page. Before you move to a call, the character can also send you voice messages; this feature is limited on free accounts and fully available on Premium.
Where should you start?
If you're getting replies that sound like clunky translations, the conversation will never really click. Fanchaty, Turkey's first Turkish-language AI roleplay platform, designed its characters natively rather than simply translating its interface after the fact. Chats are uncensored even on the free plan, with a daily message allowance. Unlimited messaging is included with Premium.
Whether you want a romantic chat with an AI girlfriend or want to dive into a roleplay story, the choice is yours. There are both female and male characters, and signing up doesn't require a name or photo. The platform is for users aged 18 and over.
